Post menopausal bleeding
Post menopausal bleeding can be caused by a variety of factors, but should always be investigated. The most common causes are benign such as; uterine polyps or a hormonal imbalance from menopause hormone therapy (MHT). However, endometrial abnormalities such as endometrial hyperplasia or an endometrial cancer must always be excluded.
It will often involve an examination and a pelvic ultrasound scan to guide management. An endometrial tissue sample will be recommended and this is done via an endometrial biopsy (pipelle) or hysteroscopy.
